Dogs need different care at different stages of their growth, especially from birth to three months of age. Dog owners should pay more attention to the following several parts.

1.Body temperature:
Newborn puppies do not regulate their body temperature, so it is best to keep the ambient temperature between 29℃ and 32℃ and the humidity between 55% and 65%. In addition, if intravenous therapy is required, the temperature of the intravenous fluid should be checked to avoid hypothermia.

2.Cleanliness:
When caring for a newborn puppy, the most important thing is cleanliness, which includes cleaning the dog itself and its surroundings. Streptococcus, for example, is a common bacterium found in dog feces and can cause an infection if it contact with the puppy’s eyes, skin or umbilical cord.

3.Dehydration:
It is difficult to tell if a puppy will become dehydrated after birth. The normal dehydration assessment is to check for skin tightness, but this method is not very accurate for newborn puppies. A better way is to examine the mucosa of the mouth. If the oral mucosa is abnormally dry, dog owner should replenish water to the puppy.

4.Bacterial infection:
When the mother dog has mastitis or uteritis, it will infect the newborn puppy, and the puppy will suffer from mutageniosis. When the puppy is born without eating colostrum, the body’s resistance is reduced and it is also susceptible to infection.

Many of the clinical symptoms of newborn puppies are very similar, such as dysentery, not eating, hypothermia and whining, so once the dog is unwell, immediately take it go to the animal hospital.
