1. Fenbendazole acts against parasites by disrupting the formation of microtubules by binding to tubulin in parasitic intestinal cells hence preventing the absorption of glucose. Parasites are gradually starved to death.
2. Fenbendazole is active against a large number of gastrointestinal parasites in the stomach and intestines of animals. It is active against round worms, ankylosomes, trichuris, certain tape worms, strongyles and stronglyoides and also against lungworms. Fenbendazole is active against adult and immature stages, and also against inhibited L4 larvae of Ostertagia spp.
3. Fenbendazole is poorly absorbed. Maximum plasma concentration is reached within about 20 hours and the parent drug is metabolised in the liver and eliminated within 48 hours. The main metabolite, oxfendazole, also possesses anthelmintic activity.
4. Broad Spectrum Fenbendazole Premix 4% HUNTER 4 is indicated for the treatment of gastrointestinal and pulmonary nematodes in the adult and immature stages.
