♦ Doxycycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic with a bacteriostatic or bacteriocidal action depending on the dose used. It has excellent absorption and tissue penetration, superior to most other tetracyclines. It is active against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, rickettsiae, mycoplasmas, chlamydia, actinomyces and some protozoa.
♦ Colistin is a bactericidal antibiotic active against Gram-negative bacteria (eg. E. coli, Salmonella, Pseudomonas). There is very low occurence of resistance. The absorption from the gastro-intestinal tract is poor, resulting in high concentrations in the intestines for treatment of bowel infections.
♦ The association of both antibiotics shows excellent activity against systemic infections, as well as against gastro-intestinal infections. Therefore, DOXYCOL-50 is especially recommended for mass medication under circumstances that need a broad prophylactic or metaphylactic approach (eg. stress situations).
♦ Treatment and prevention of: Calves, lambs, pigs: respiratory infections (eg. bronchopneumonias, enzootic pneumonia, atrophic rhinitis, pasteurellosis, Haemophilus infections in pigs), gastro-intestinal infections (colibacillosis, salmonellosis), oedema disease in pigs, septicaemia.
♦ For Poultry: infections of the upper respiratory tract and air sacs (coryza, CRD, infectious sinusitis), E. coli infections, salmonellosis (typhose, paratyphose, pullorose), cholera, aspecific enteritis (blue-comb disease), chlamidiosis (psitacosis), speticaemias.
♦ Oral administration
♥ Calves, lambs, pigs: Treatment: 5 g powder per 20 kg b.w. per day for 3-5 days
♥ Prevention: 2.5 g powder per 20 kg b.w per day
♥ Poultry: Treatment: 100 g powder per 25-50 litres drinking water
♥ Prevention: 100 g powder per 50-100 litres drinking water
♦ UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS-Tetracyclines may seldom induce allergic reactions as well as gastro-intestinal disturbances (diarrhoea).
♦ CONTRA-INDICATIONS-Do not use in animals with a previous history of hypersensitivity towards tetracyclines.
♦ Do not use in ruminant calves.
